This attractive February foal is out of the Montjeu mare Afrodita, who has previously produced two winners including the one-time 105-rated Ajwaad.
Afrodita is in turn out of the Grp-3 winner Aim For The Top, and is therefore a sibling of the Listed-winning and Grp-1 placed Polar Bear and the Grp-1 Fillies’ Mile runner-up Dance To The Top. The latter went on to produce the Grp-2 winning and Grp-1 placed Bankable, as well as the Grp-3 winner Cheshire, whilst nearly a dozen more black-type earners can be found under the second dam of this exceptional pedigree.
Montjeu is the broodmare sire of countless Grp-1 winners, whilst it is also worth highlighting the record of his daughters when paired with Starspangledbanner. The only previous representatives of the cross are both winners, namely the 95-rated Windsor Beach and Only Alone, an impressive Beverley novice winner for none other than Jedd O’Keefe earlier this year.
Starspangledbanner was a Grp-1 winning sprinter/miler in Australia in his youth, who later won the Grp-1 July Cup and Grp-1 Golden Jubilee Stakes for Aidan O’Brien.
Some of his best runners to date include the Grp-1 Prix Morny winner The Wow Signal, the 2019 Grp-1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Millisle and the Grp-2 Queen Mary Stakes heroine and Grp-1 placed Anthem Alexander.
Hopes are high that this classy filly can follow in those illustrious footsteps, and her new trainer is particularly excited at her prospects. Following her arrival into the yard Jedd had this to say:
‘Purchased at the Guineas Breeze-Ups, this beautifully bred precocious filly delighted us with her breeze showing plenty of pace & a lovely stride. She was quickly ear-marked as the one we wanted to begin our relationship with Hope Eden.’
This filly clearly has exceptional credentials on paper and the accompanying pictorial and video evidence only serves to heighten expectations.
